Never stop improving...

Since moving to Washington back in May, Ty and I have been doing a lot of home improvements on our little guest house.  I have lovingly nicknamed it 'The Nook'  because it is so cozy and tucked into the hill beneath some beautiful cedar trees and gets better by the day.

Last month, we got a new washer and dryer.  The new laundry equipment is stackable, so we needed to redesign the layout of our utility closet in order to accommodate (our old ones were side by side and ENORMOUS).  Ty is really good at spacial maximization and designed the new shelving to accommodate a ton of shelving as well as hanging space for all of our outerwear. We have tons, because we live in the Pacific Northwest, and that's just what you do here, you wear layers.

We decided not to use wire shelving. Because of the unique dimensions of our closet, we would be limited in customization.  So we used a good strong plywood, and some wooden dowels.

Before construction began

After a couple of trips to Home Depot we finally had all of the supplies necessary to build the shelving and mount the hanging rods.  We decided not to go for the wire shelving, because of the unique dimensions of our closet, we would be limited in customization.  So we used a good strong plywood.  To make it easier on the eyes, we painted the shelving white and also took a little extra time and touched up the pain on the walls in there too, to freshen everything up!

Ahhhh, weekends spent in this beautiful place...Honestly, I don't think I've been
to Home Depot as much in my entire life as I have since May.

Mounting the mountings!

It took an entire Sunday to complete,  and I managed to get white pain in my hair and all over my fave Lulu Lemon pants, but it was totally worth it.  Every day when I do the laundry, grab a jacket, fresh towels or the broom, I marvel at the ease and organization (why yes, I am that lame).
Our car-port turned wood working shop

Fresh paint and new shelves ready to be loaded with all of our STUFF!

The photos aren't too exciting, but you get the idea.  Lots more space and less hassles is always a beautiful thing!

The full view: pet food bottom left floor; laundry and ironing accouterments,
lower left shelf. Sheet and duvet cover storage middle left shelf.  Hanging everyday
jacket rod. Beach and bath towel storage, top left shelf.  Deconstructed "Junk drawer"
is organized into stackable drawers.  We have a lot less wall space, so extra art is stored
next to washer. Keepsakes like crystal champagne glasses and heirloom pitcher are stored safely
in their original padded boxes atop the dryer, Hamper stored next to broom and swiffer in the right
floor area.  Longer hanging coats (ski wear and dress coats) hang on the rod in front of our yoga mats
and free weights.  Guest duvets and pillows stored on top right shelf.

Plenty of extra room for our new fancy towels, being
 delivered later this week!

Top of the dryer was perfect storage space for keepsake boxes
that don't seem to have a home anywhere else.

Gues duvet and pillow storage.

Happy organizing!
xoxo,
Bee
